Board approves Act 1 opt‑out, Eastern Center contribution and $66,480 vape‑detector contract

At its Nov. 18 meeting the School District of Springfield Township board approved several fiscal and property actions.

The board approved an accelerated opt‑out resolution signaling the district will present a budget not greater than the Act 1 inflation index (3.5% for 2026–27). Board members clarified the opt‑out does not compel taxing to that index and that final budgets remain to be adopted.

Administrators described the devices as sensors (no cameras), with an audible alarm and reporting mechanism; the board discussed extending detection to the high school pending evaluation of different device models.
