South Gate planning staff to revisit Gateway Specific Plan; budget presentation set for Dec. 2

City planning staff told the South Gate Planning Commission on Nov. 18 that the Gateway District specific plan (the northeast corner of Atlantic and Firestone/Azalea corridor) is being revisited under a Council of Governments (COG) grant with an outside consultant; when public outreach begins the project will be scheduled for planning commission review.
Staff also provided administrative updates: commissioners were thanked for completing required harassment training; the commission was reminded of two remaining year-end meetings (Dec. 2 and Dec. 16), and staff confirmed a planning-department budget and finance presentation is scheduled for the Dec. 2 meeting. In personnel news, staff announced the senior planner (Blaia) had returned briefly from paternity leave, will be back for a short period and then depart the city after accepting another job.
Commissioners used the opportunity to press staff on follow-up for several longstanding neighborhood code-enforcement concerns on Rio and asked staff to consider more proactive outreach to schools and other stakeholders before notices are mailed so developers can coordinate earlier with affected parties.
Staff said code enforcement handles anonymous complaints and confirmed they will pursue those cases; the commission asked staff to report back at a future meeting so the community can hear status updates directly from staff.
The planning commission adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
