The Jacksonville Planning Advisory Board voted to approve a text amendment clarifying fence height allowances on corner lots, a staff-driven cleanup to align ordinance language with the drafters' intent.
Jennifer, planning staff, told the Board that council had adopted related changes at its September meeting but an edit to "item 3" concerning corner-lot height allowances was not incorporated into the adopted ordinance. "We're just asking that you consider striking that language," Jennifer said, explaining the intent is to treat corner lots the same as interior lots and allow 6-foot fences to the property line except where sight-triangle rules apply.
Jennifer said the rule change still preserves motorist visibility: in the front corner triangle the height limit remains 4 feet and any zone based on the zoning district (for example, an RSF-7 district has a 15-foot corner-side setback) will continue to be enforced through the ordinance's setback and sight-triangle provisions.
A Board member moved to approve the amendment based on the land-use plan; the motion was seconded, the consistency statement was added, and the motion passed by voice vote.
