Board hears first readings of multiple policy revisions; member flags added language to include 'lawful possession and use of firearms'

An unidentified board member asked policy committee members to review a change to Policy 333 (parent rights), specifically section 3(c) on surveys. The speaker said the committee added a ninth bullet to capture "any legal, lawful, or protected practice of the family" and that the local addition "is also intended to include the lawful possession and use of firearms." The speaker said they discussed the language with "Mr. Butler" and recommended committee members take another look before the next step in the policy process.
The policy update also covered Policy 330 (curriculum development and improvement), Rule/Policy 331 (new course procedures with Exhibits 1–3), Policy 341 (basic instructional program), Policy 341.1 (district reading goals and early literacy program), Policy 342.1 (program for students with disabilities) and Policy 342.11 (independent educational evaluations) and its rule. The board returned these items for first reading; no final votes on the policy texts were recorded at the meeting.
A separate note in the policy committee report said Phil Henkel provided an update on state legislative matters to the committee. The board was directed to reach out to "Randy" with questions about the policy packages.
