The Jacksonville Youth Council opened nominations for 2026 officers and outlined eligibility and timing rules, members said at a meeting.
The chair explained the roles and eligibility requirements for council officers (chair must have been an active member the previous year; the chair and vice chair cannot be from the same school; recorder and secretary cannot be from the same school; limits exist for at-large seats and seniors). Riley Hayes nominated herself for chairman and the chair closed nominations for that position after asking for additional candidates.
Cameron Chatham nominated himself for recorder and Diamond Jackson nominated herself for council secretary. Members named Grace Anderson as the Northside High School representative and Atticus Wright Dollar as the Anza Early College representative; Ashlyn Yates and Olivia Arnwine announced themselves as at-large candidates. Officers said some positions will remain open until January to allow a full slate.
Organizers confirmed campaigning materials (a one-page flyer or single-slide presentation) are customary and that elections will be held on Jan. 7, 2026; the chair said new officers will be sworn in at the February meeting. Staff will circulate nomination lists and campaign guidance by email.
The open-nominations period and scheduled January election mean candidates will have time to prepare campaign materials; the council adjourned after final announcements.
