Commissioners Dominguez and Morton presented an ad hoc plan to curate and recommend public-safety education videos for the city's public-safety web page. Marie from city staff demonstrated sample links to the San Diego Sheriff's YouTube videos (including overdose awareness and the "blue envelope" program) and the commission discussed how to make material timely and avoid duplicating city staff work.
The ad hoc proposal recommends a curated library of approved videos, a seasonal calendar for topical posts (holiday safety, summer safety, wildfire/evacuation notices), and a light-touch review process so commission members provide criteria and guidance rather than vetting each video individually. Captain Chris Catra of the San Diego Sheriff's Office presented overdose-response statistics (more than 500 overdose calls in 2024 and 60+ naloxone deployments) and described available sheriff-produced educational assets.
Commissioners agreed to draft a repository and a calendar for staff review and eventual commission approval. They also discussed expanding the repository beyond sheriff-produced content to include fire, health and other county/city-produced materials. Staff will coordinate with communications staff and return with a recommended list and calendar for a future meeting.
