Assistant Public Works Director Carolyn Burke told the commission that several park projects are reaching completion: Highland Otis Park playground equipment is installed and a ribbon cutting is scheduled for Jan. 31 at 3:30 p.m.; Fernando Park’s playground is substantially complete and a ribbon cutting is scheduled for March 6 at 3:30 p.m.; and benches and picnic tables have been installed at Pacitti Dog Park and Mezcal Neal Park.
Burke said Lincoln Cunningham Arterial Trail consultant plans are at 60% and that a construction contract award is anticipated in late June or early July 2024. On Havana Solis Park, she said $50,000 was budgeted for improvements focused on wall repair and the barbecue area; the project came in under budget, allowing the team to add eucalyptus trimming, additional decomposed granite, and another wall repair using reclaimed stone.
Other updates included additional concrete picnic areas at Coutinho Park with landscaping scheduled soon, new drought-tolerant plantings and imminent delivery of play equipment at Sabado Park, and a proposal for Wheeler Tennis Courts that staff expect to complete in the April–June quarter when the site is dry.
Commissioners asked follow-up questions about master plans, scheduling and community access; staff said they will provide additional details as schedules and contracts solidify.
