Council makes hotels and motels conditional uses in multiple zoning districts

York County Council voted unanimously on Dec. 1 to amend the county zoning code so that hotels and motels are conditional, rather than permitted, uses in the GC, OA, BT, MU and UD zoning districts. The ordinance adds sections addressing extended-stay definitions, length-of-stay rules, registration, property maintenance, compliance requirements, fees and penalties and departmental coordination for enforcement.
No members of the public spoke either for or against the ordinance after the council opened and then closed the hearing for the item. Council members described the amendment as a measure to align county standards with municipal rules and to provide consistent enforcement across jurisdictions.
