Valdosta council approves multiple rezonings and a conditional-use permit despite neighbors’ drainage and sidewalk concerns

Valdosta’s mayor and council on Sept. 11 approved multiple land-use requests — including a conditional-use permit for a double-wide manufactured home, a small commercial rezoning, the rezoning of a 3.27-acre Brookfield Road parcel and the rezoning and annexation of 6.17 acres for townhouse-style development.

Planning Director Matt Martin described a conditional-use permit for Valeria Dwyer to place a Class A double-wide manufactured home (about 1,900 square feet) on a 0.44-acre R-6 lot at 114 Mills Lane. The planning commission recommended approval subject to two conditions: the home be set at least 30 feet from Mills Lane on a permanent masonry foundation with brick or brick-veneer skirting, and that approval expire two years after granting if a building permit has not been issued. After no public opposition, an unnamed council member moved to approve the CUP and the council adopted it by show of hands.
