Therese Harris offered a testimonial praising Smith’s work: “She is 1 of those forces that we need… everything she does is very vital in our communities,” and Smith described her fitness journey and motivation to model mental and physical wellness while doing front‑line social justice work. Smith also stated she has run over 1,200 miles and will represent the Ninth Ward on Dec. 14 in Honolulu.
These ceremonial items were followed by the formal roll call and start of the council’s legislative business.
