Finance Committee recommends two local appointments to Council on Aging and Cemetery Board
Summary
The Brockton Finance Committee unanimously recommended Faith Slayton as an alternate to the Council on Aging and Peter Gaskins to the Cemetery Board. Both nominations were introduced by the clerk and supported by Mayor Sullivan and Councilor McCastro.
The Brockton Finance Committee on Dec. 1 recommended two mayoral appointments to advisory boards, moving them to the full City Council with positive recommendation.
Faith Slayton of Broadwood Street was introduced for a three-year term as an alternate on the Brockton Council on Aging. Slayton told the committee she has done volunteer work with the council on aging "for a few years" and said, "I would like to learn and experience other ways to help in my community." Councilor McCastro spoke in favor, saying he "wholeheartedly support[s] her appointment" and expects she will be an asset.
The committee also recommended Peter Gaskins for a five-year term on the Cemetery Board. Gaskins, introduced after being postponed from Nov. 17, said his family history with cemeteries and his interest in giving back motivated the application. Mayor Robert Sullivan and Councilor McCastro both voiced support. The committee voted to recommend both appointments favorably to the full City Council.
The recommendations do not finalize the appointments; the full council will consider confirmation at a later meeting.
