The Baker City Council unanimously adopted a series of proclamations and used the meeting to highlight recent and upcoming community outreach.
Council read and adopted a proclamation declaring December 2025 as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, emphasizing responsibility when driving under the influence and urging schools, workplaces and faith organizations to promote safe behavior. "Now, therefore, the mayor and city council of the city of Baker... do declare and proclaim the month of December 2025 as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month," the proclamation text recited for the record.
The council also adopted a proclamation recognizing December 2025 as Safe Toy and Gift Month and cited national injury statistics and Consumer Product Safety Commission guidance, including a CPSC hotline number read aloud in the proclamation. The council additionally approved a proclamation recognizing Jan.18, 2026 as Justice Sunday and announced a related community program on Jan.10 featuring a documentary and discussion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life.
Members used the meeting to report on recent holiday outreach: volunteers and partners distributed nearly 1,000 food boxes and handed out bicycles and toys at recent events. Council members thanked volunteer organizations including the Cajun Navy and named volunteers and clergy who assisted. The presiding officer said the city will continue similar efforts into the new year and announced a community parade planned on Gruen (Gruen/Gruen Road spelling in transcript) with council participation.
Each proclamation was moved and seconded by council members and adopted by voice vote. Council members directed staff to share proclamation copies with the appropriate agencies and to publicize the Jan.10 and Jan.18 programs.
