Newark council previews appointment of Kimberly C. Clark to library board

Kimberly C. Clark, a Newark resident and library user for two decades, appeared before the Newark Municipal Council at its Dec. 2 pre-meeting as the mayor’s nominee for a trustee seat on the Newark Public Library Board. Clark told the council she views the library as a “place of lifelong learning” and described it as a source of connection and community engagement since moving to Newark.
Councilwoman Scott Rountree offered to sponsor Clark’s appointment and a council member seconded the motion. Council members thanked Clark for her willingness to serve and congratulated her. No final vote on the appointment was recorded at the pre-meeting; the matter remained on the agenda for a subsequent meeting.
The nomination was read aloud by the clerk as an item on page 25 of the meeting packet. Council members offered brief supportive remarks about the library’s transitional period and said they expected the nominee’s experience to help move the library forward. The council did not take formal final action at the pre-meeting; staff and council indicated the item would proceed through the normal agenda process at the next scheduled meeting.
