Landmarks commissioners direct plaque sample, seek more bids and move September meeting

The Middleton Landmarks Commission discussed procurement for new landmark plaques and confirmed a plan to solicit additional bids and review material options.

Commissioner S4, a professional woodworker, offered to craft a cedar backer sample with a subtle bevel as a reference for future plaques; the commission directed S4 to produce a sample and bring it to the next meeting. Commissioners noted prior printed materials had incorrect addresses and recommended staff verify plaque contents with Rob Murray and local historical organizations before final production. "We need to investigate more," one commissioner said, urging additional local bids.

On scheduling, commissioners agreed to move the September meeting to Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6:15 p.m. to avoid conflicts with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The commission adjourned after setting follow-up tasks for plaque procurement and staff updates on the pending landmarks ordinance.

Next steps: staff will circulate additional vendor quotes, accept the woodworker sample for review at the next meeting, and add a staff update on the new landmarks ordinance to a future agenda.
