The Homewood School District 153 Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Dr. Teresa Hill as superintendent, effective July 1, 2026, contingent on a satisfactory criminal background report and verification of her legal qualifications.
An unidentified board member moved the hiring motion, saying, “After consideration of all candidates, the Board of Education moves to approve the employment of the new superintendent, Dr. Hill, effective 07/01/2026, conditioned only upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background report and upon receipt of evidence of proper legal qualifications for the position.” A second was recorded and a roll-call vote produced five yeses; the chair announced the motion carries.
Board members introduced Hill at the meeting and summarized her career. According to remarks by board members, Hill has served 13 years as superintendent in South Holland School District 151, previously was assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and staff development at Barrington Consolidated Unit School District 220, and spent more than 10 years in Bloomington School District 87 in administrative and school-leadership roles. The board said Hill holds a master’s degree in education administration and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Illinois State University.
An unidentified board member who spoke during the introduction welcomed Hill to the Homewood-Flossmoor community and said the district — described at the meeting as about 325 staff and 1,900 students — would benefit from Hill’s approach. “You are going to bring new fresh ideas to our district,” the board member said.
The board announced that Dr. McAlister will send a district message and that staff will prepare a press release and photos. Board members invited attendees to a brief reception; the meeting record notes a cake donated by James Cassidy and purchased from Costco.
The hiring vote was taken during a special meeting called solely to consider employment of the superintendent. The board adjourned after the vote. The hire is conditioned on completion of the background check and verification of qualifications before the contract becomes final.
