South Fayette board hears construction update; some classrooms set for turnover over Christmas break

Jason Day, the district—s project representative, gave the board a progress update on the intermediate-school construction, saying work on the three-story addition and an orchestra addition is advancing and some new rooms should be ready for student use over the Christmas break.
"The ceiling grid is installed in all 3 rooms," Day said, and "the flooring has started on the ... top floor" with that level finished the same day. He said casework for the three new rooms is scheduled for Dec. 8 and "the completion date is the twelfth," adding that the district and contractor will coordinate turning the rooms over to facilities for occupancy during the Christmas break.
Day told trustees that windows were expected to ship the following week and that masonry work has encountered a brick "angle issue" the contractor plans to fix next Monday. He said the contractor is scheduled to begin steel erection for the larger Area D addition on Dec. 1 after foundations and underground plumbing work reach roughly 95% completion.
Board members asked whether any formal occupancy permits would be needed before moving students or staff into the spaces; Day said the township will issue occupancy for the two smaller spaces the district is preparing to use.
The presentation included photos showing completed ceiling grid work, exterior block, foundation and waterproofing work, and site drainage. Day said the general contractor will be asked to provide an updated baseline schedule to the district so staff can analyze any needed recovery steps.
The project update did not include any formal schedule change orders on the agenda; board members and staff described current delays as relatively minor and said they would monitor the contractor's updated schedule in the coming weeks.
