The Anacortes City Council approved a renewal of the city’s contract with the Anacortes Family Center to provide social-service outreach, referrals and preventative supports for individuals at risk of becoming unhoused.
Chief Harris told the council that the contract continues a pre-existing relationship, delivered work across city departments and was included in the police department budget approved in November. He added staff are pursuing grant opportunities that could restore the contract amount to $60,000 in future years.
Councilmember Fantini moved to authorize the mayor to sign contract 26007APDO01 with the Anacortes Family Center in the amount of $30,000; the motion passed after Councilmember Cleland McGrath announced she would abstain because she serves on the Family Center board.
Why it matters: The contract funds social-service support intended to reduce homelessness risk and provide coordinated referrals from city staff and police.
What’s next: Staff will execute the renewal; grant applications are pending that could increase future funding.
