The Ball Chatham CUSD 5 board approved its routine consent agenda and several operational items during a packed meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 19, the district’s recap said. The approved consent package included bills, payables, minutes and FOIA requests, and the board also approved personnel items including hires, resignations, transfers and leaves of absence.
Wendy Delocus, the district chief financial officer, gave an informational presentation on the truth-in-taxation process and how the levy is calculated, and the board scheduled a truth-in-taxation hearing for Dec. 17 so community members can ask questions. “She walked us through how our levy is calculated,” Dr. Layman said in the recap.
The board also approved primary and secondary school calendars for future school years. The district adopted a secondary calendar as contingency after a law that previously allowed students not to attend school on election day expired; the secondary calendar preserves an option if that law is not reinstated.
Other approved items included out-of-state travel for the boys tennis team, acceptance of a donated golf cart for the high school, and the sale of the district’s old office at 201 West Mulberry to the Village of Chatham. No citizen speakers were recorded during the opportunity for visitors, the recap said.
Next steps: the district will hold the truth-in-taxation hearing at the Dec. 17 board meeting to allow residents to ask questions about the levy and proposed tax impact.
