Board approves consent items, personnel actions and several contracts in routine meeting

Ball Chatham Community Unit School District 5’s board of education approved a series of routine and administrative items during its Nov. 15 meeting, including consent and personnel agendas, memoranda of understanding, school calendars, insurance plans, travel requests and several facility- and safety-related contracts.
The consent agenda – which included minutes from prior meetings, treasurer and financial reports, accounts payable and activity reports – was approved by motion and roll call. The personnel consent agenda covering resignations, new hires, retirements, transfers and leaves also passed by roll call.
Specific approvals included memoranda of understanding to add a VCEA-funded stipend position for show choir and an additional student council assistant position, both justified by increased participation and travel needs; adoption of school calendars for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school years; and continuation of employee health coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois with an insurance-committee-recommended renewal and ancillary consolidation to reduce costs.
The board approved the boys tennis team’s out-of-state travel to a spring 2026 tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn., noting the estimated out-of-pocket cost (about $400 per player) would be covered by fundraising and team accounts. The board accepted a donation of two six-passenger golf carts valued at just under $14,000 for use as “Titan taxis” and approved a proposed intergovernmental sale/transfer of a district-owned DO property to the Village of Chatham after confirming appraisal work and local uses.
On school safety and facilities, the board approved an annual contract to secure a school resource officer (SRO) through the Village of Chatham for August–May coverage and approved using Health Life Safety funds to add cameras at the transportation facility, subject to ROE/ISBE approvals where required.
Separately, the board voted to set a Truth in Taxation hearing for Dec. 17, 2025, following a tax-levy presentation that explained proposed levy figures and the district’s rationale for the requested extension.
