Design team reports strong turnout and priorities from Dog Park public meeting; separation, lighting and water flagged

An architecture team said more than 50 residents attended a public involvement meeting for the Dog Park; top concerns were separating small and large dogs, mud and drainage, adding shade, and the viability and cost of solar lighting and water access.
The commission reviewed public input for a proposed Dog Park and an online survey at its Nov. 3 meeting after an architecture-led public involvement meeting drew more than 50 attendees.
Blake of the project team said attendees proposed separating small and large dogs, adding shade, improving drainage to reduce mud and finding ways to provide water without promoting shared drinking bowls. Blake said the team recommends not promoting shared water bowls and is exploring extending a water supply to the parking area; a dog-wash station was mentioned as a plumbing-dependent possibility.
On lighting, Blake described two solar fixture options (12-foot and 16-foot poles) and said a combined quote for one of each came back “about 22,000,” with additional concrete base costs estimated at $800–$1,000 each. The commission discussed cameras as a secondary option but staff and consultants noted cost and IT constraints and recommended starting with lighting.
The team will return with graphic concepts, cost estimates and options for fencing and access to a southern tree line area that residents identified as a valued amenity.
