Harnett County economic development office highlights site prep, Robin Hood acreage and new grant pursuits

At the Nov. 25 work session, county economic development representatives updated commissioners on site-readiness and business recruitment efforts.
Steven Barrington described several priority sites: Edgerton Industrial Park (clearing and grading expected to be complete in December), a second Harnett Economic Development Corporation-funded site moving into engineering, and work on Harnett 87 including environmental reviews led by Colliers Engineering. Barrington said the county is working with the Garrison commander at Fort Bragg to secure secondary access via Nursery Road for one site.
Barrington highlighted the Robin Hood site, a property at the last I-95 exit before Johnston County that the team estimated at roughly 160'178 acres. He said site selectors viewed the Robin Hood property favorably for its flat, open character but that infrastructure improvements and additional due diligence will be required.
The county is pursuing outside funding, Barrington said, including EPA Brownfield Assessment grant funding, a Coden Lee Foundation grant, and a $100,000 Duke Energy request to continue due diligence on the Robin Hood site. He said the county's strategy is to bring as many market-ready properties as possible to the market to compete for projects.
Commissioners commended the work and asked a few clarifying questions; no formal board action was taken beyond placing related items on next week's consent agenda where appropriate.
