Board members honor departing trustee Grace Ann and her mental-health work

Grace Ann, a long-serving member of the Township of Ocean Board of Education, told trustees Thursday that this will likely be her final board meeting and that she expects to continue serving the community in a new role as a councilwoman.
"I am deeply appreciative to the administration and staff who dedicate themselves every day to preparing students for a bright future," Grace Ann said as she summarized her six years on the board and the district's mental-health work. She reviewed initiatives implemented during her tenure: creation of a wellness committee to support staff and students during and after COVID, summer mental-health counseling to bridge the school-year gap, a secured grant for a social-emotional learning coach, and a reallocation of anti-bullying coordination to mental-health counselors.
Trustees thanked Grace Ann for her service and wished her luck in her new role. Several speakers also acknowledged volunteer leaders and parents who have supported special-education advocacy and district programs.
The board did not vote on personnel changes related to her departure at the meeting; Grace Ann's remarks were a valedictory acknowledgment of her time on the board and the district’s progress on student mental-health supports.
