CANYON LAKE, Calif. — Canyon Lake’s finance team has won the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, City Manager Aaron Brown announced Wednesday, calling the recognition “a big deal” and a sign the city’s budget meets national best-practice standards for transparency and long-term planning.
Brown said the award — achieved on the city’s first submission — recognizes proficiency across the budget as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool and requires meeting 14 mandatory elements. He credited finance staff by name for their work assembling a document that meets the GFOA’s high standards.
The council applauded the staff, and Finance team members were named in the chamber of applause.
Why it matters: The award signals to residents, partner agencies and credit-rating bodies that the city’s budgeting practices follow professional standards and helps support public confidence in financial stewardship.
