The council recognized newly graduated firefighters and presented brief remarks from public-safety leadership praising recruits and first responders. Mayor Nalton named Hayden Atkinson and Brooke Horr among the graduates and invited department leaders to speak.
Brock Holt and city staff reiterated the city’s open-burning ordinance and permit process, saying open burning inside city limits is prohibited except where a permit is granted. Holt said burn permits are authorized only by Chief Salter and noted fines of $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second and $500 for a third. Residents were told to contact Chief Salter or city hall for permit information and a list of exceptions.
The council also heard from Ray on a sewer project along Rogers Street in the Woodmont area. Ray said the project secured grant funding and assistance from county commissioners, that easements had been obtained after lengthy work, and that the project had been bid and is ready to move forward. The mayor thanked city staff for holiday lighting efforts and encouraged turnout for an upcoming December Christmas parade.
No formal council action was recorded for the recognitions, ordinance reminder or project update; these items were presented as reports and community announcements.
