Barren County Fiscal Court approves routine reports, invoices and grants; sets Jan. 6 meeting

Barren County Fiscal Court completed routine business and several approvals during its Dec. 16 meeting, approving monthly reports, multiple invoices and grant contracts and setting its next session for Jan. 6, 2026.

Key approvals included: the county monthly financial report for November 2025; the county attorney’s settlement report for November; county clerk fee reports; and the sheriff’s fee budgets. The court approved writing a check to the City of Glasgow for $63,332.84 (its portion of home inspection fees) and authorized a $13,788.84 disbursement for 9-1-1 landline fees collected through the SCRTC process.

The court also approved a search-and-rescue grant contract authorizing the purchase of a thermal-imaging drone for $10,023 and approved a set of invoices: a $6,000 audit invoice from Carr, Riggs & Ingram; $6,733.52 to Clery Construction for asphalt; $10,000 to the River Area Child Advocacy Center as the county’s committed contribution; $15,895.25 to government utilities and technology services (tax-related); and $43,095 as the county’s share to the joint city-county planning commission. The court also approved bond/disbursement checks related to Jackie Browning Park totaling $114,310 and a county insurance payment of $505,730.

Coroner and departmental reports were delivered: the coroner reported a record-low November with seven death investigations (all natural causes). The county clerk reminded potential candidates the filing deadline is Jan. 9 and that party-change deadlines run through Dec. 31. Road and corrections reports included mileage, inmate labor figures and booking/release statistics.

Magistrate Jeff Botts announced he will not seek re-election, citing family reasons. The court closed by thanking staff and volunteers for the year and reminding employees of a county Christmas lunch and holiday office closures.
