Board recognizes Ferrum College and awards Franklin County Public Library for community‑health work

At its meeting the Franklin County Board of Supervisors recognized Ferrum College for record enrollment growth among Franklin County residents and for moving athletics to NCAA Division II, and the board accepted a Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) achievement award honoring the county library’s work integrating health services and community outreach.
Supervisor Tatum read a resolution celebrating Ferrum College’s largest incoming class since 2018 and noting 138 Franklin County residents enrolled this year compared with five residents two‑and‑a‑half years earlier; Dr. Myrtle Martin thanked the board and asked supervisors to "open your mouths and tell everything that is good and beautiful about Ferrum College." Coach Adams also thanked the board for community support.
Joe Lerch from VACO presented the association’s achievement award to library staff for reimagining the library’s role in community health. Rebecca from the library described partnerships with Virginia Tech, Carilion Health and Feeding Southwest Virginia, and mentioned privacy telehealth "Zen booths," cooking classes and mindfulness programming. Staff said the library’s initiative was documented in a journal article and in VACO’s award submission materials.
The board praised staff and volunteers and took photos with honorees.
