Supervisors approve $25,000 contingency change to add staff restroom in new clinic

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors voted to include a staff restroom in the design of a new county clinic and to fund the change from the project contingency, an estimated $25,000 deduction.
Facilities director described the request as a deviation from the original design: a storage area would be converted to a single-occupant staff restroom located within a secured clinic hallway. He said the project’s contingency currently sits at about $68,000 and that adding the restroom would reduce contingency to approximately $43,000 but that other contingency sources (including VA project funds and furniture savings) could offset some costs.
Supervisors asked for additional documentation in the record before formalizing a change order; the facilities director said he would submit the change order later and that this vote authorized proceeding with the estimate. Board members also asked about security and keying (badge access) for the restroom; staff said the clinic hallway is badge-accessed and the restroom would be in the secured area.
Motion carried; the facilities director will bring a formal change order to the board at a future meeting.
