Board roundup: payments, Pinecrest boiler repair, rezoning hearings and winter road alerts

At its Nov. 25 meeting, the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors approved routine financial actions and several administrative items, including advertisements for two rezoning public hearings and an emergency boiler repair at the Pinecrest facility.

The County Auditor reported bill payments including election expenses and a six‑month bond interest payment. Election‑related costs totaled $87,397.37 and the bond interest payment was $234,716.65 according to the auditor’s report; the auditor reported a longer total-bill figure verbally that appeared garbled in the record and should be confirmed in the official docket.

The board approved an emergency repair contract with WBC Mechanical of Waterloo for $5,637.50 to replace a failed boiler control board and associated control panel at the Pinecrest building, following a presentation by Rory Gibbons, facilities director. The board also directed the county auditor to advertise public hearings on two rezoning requests: Ordinance No. 77‑302 (Donald and Jennifer Wardle, 4.73 acres) and Ordinance No. 77‑303 (Kevin Keegan, 1.51 acres), both scheduled for Dec. 16 in Boardroom 201.

Staff updated the board on the Down Street and Grama Road projects, saying the Down Street bridge guardrail is in place and the road is expected to reopen by the close of business the following day. Road crews were preparing for winter conditions and the county urged residents to sign up for road notifications. Communications staff reported more than 115 entries so far to a snowplow‑naming contest; public voting runs Dec. 8–14.
