The Town of Moraga council voted unanimously on Dec. 10 to elect Council Member Carrie Hillis as mayor for 2026 and to name Lisa Malleo as vice mayor.
Outgoing Mayor Steve Walacky nominated Hillis, citing her volunteer leadership on the planning commission and the Moraga Community Foundation and saying she brings an outward, regional focus to Moraga. Hillis accepted the nomination.
Walnut Creek Mayor Kevin Wilk — attending as a guest — praised Hillis’s regional engagement and record of interjurisdictional work, saying, "You could not have a better mayor for Moraga." Several council members then voted by roll call; the mayoral nomination passed unanimously.
For vice mayor, Lisa Malleo was nominated and accepted. Council conducted a roll call and confirmed her selection. After a brief recess for seating, the new mayor and vice mayor addressed the council and public. Hillis outlined housing affordability and economic challenges as early priorities and presented a short list of readings and themes she wants the council to consider in 2026.
The town manager noted upcoming agenda items for January, including hearings on purchasing policy and building code adoption, and reminded the public that the next council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14.
No formal votes on ordinances or policy changes accompanied the leadership transition at the Dec. 10 meeting; the actions were internal leadership appointments.
