The University of Oklahoma (project team) reported progress on a Safe Streets for All action plan funded through a USDOT award that, once adopted, will make the city eligible for implementation grants.

"We started working on this project in 2025 with a transportation planning class," Hallie Reeves (S14) said in a video presentation and described the community engagement approach: website, surveys and in‑person outreach at five community events. Reeves said the team had completed outreach events at Cops and Kids, Petalpalooza, the fall festival, a mummy‑day museum event and the Shawnee Rotary Club.

Reeves reported about 96 surveys completed and 260 locations identified by respondents; the team plans to combine that input with crash and police speed/incident data to prioritize safety improvements. The draft safety action plan is expected to reach city staff by February and will list recommended improvements and identify where federal implementation funding would be most viable.

Commissioners asked a few clarifying questions. One commissioner noted the number of survey responses was lower than hoped and encouraged broader participation; Reeves reiterated that the survey remains available at safestreetsshawnee.org while analysis is under way.
