Two public commenters told the board that cuts to district support have deeply harmed the Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success, a long-running program that provides culturally focused summer and year-round programming. Yashaun Ferguson said district funding for the academy has been reduced and that ending the partnership has had a deep impact on the program’s students. "If you truly represent all students getting a deserving education, you will not defund them," Ferguson said.
Tiernan Bales, who described attending the Academy beginning in middle school, said the program offers belonging and cultural education that is not provided in standard curricula. Bales said the academy’s removal from high schools and declines in district support have constrained outreach but have not ended the program.
Speakers requested that the board consult with the academy and consider restoring or preserving partnership funding. Board members acknowledged the comments during reports; no immediate funding reversal or formal board action to restore the partnership was taken at the meeting.
