CFISD planning committee recommends monitoring attendance boundaries, defers changes to 2'5 years

The Long Range Planning Committee presented an update to the Board of Trustees on Nov. 10, recommending that the district continue to monitor enrollment trends and delay major attendance‑boundary changes for two to five years.

Anya Lucas, the committee's community co‑chair, summarized results from three committee meetings and a demographer's presentation by Dr. Stacy Tapara. The committee reviewed projections and campus capacity (both permanent capacity and overall capacity including portables) and identified campuses by level for possible boundary modification. Presenters said the majority of campuses were below projected enrollment and that only Sprague Middle School exceeded overall capacity. Using a rollover projection for 2026–27 that does not account for potential growth or decline, the committee noted uncertainty related to the implementation of education savings accounts and to virtual pathway program participation.

"The committee recommends that the district continue to monitor enrollment trends and reevaluate the need to modify attendance boundaries in 2 to 5 years," Lucas said. Committee members asked the administration to bring additional facility infrastructure assessments to the next meeting and to provide updated enrollment projections.

Next steps: The committee planned to begin assessing critical infrastructure needs and future capacity requirements at its next meeting on Nov. 17, and to refine projections and scenario analyses before proposing formal boundary adjustments.
