Cy‑Fair trustees approve Accelerate Learning STEMscopes for K–8 math and Algebra I

Cypress‑Fairbanks Independent School District trustees voted Oct. 6 to approve Accelerate Learning’s STEMscopes as the district’s recommended instructional materials for grades K–8 math and Algebra I.

The board approved the recommendation after a motion and second during the Oct. 6 regular meeting. During public comment earlier in the meeting, educators and parents urged trustees to back the teachers’ recommendation. Leslie Gilmore, who said 150 educators had reviewed the materials, praised STEMscopes for its “real‑world connections” and parent‑facing videos. Kendra Camarina, a former teacher, told the board that 75% of reviewers supported STEMscopes and noted multi‑year cost comparisons presented to the board as part of the materials review process.

Board discussion and supporting reports from district curriculum committees preceded the vote. Trustees’ remarks at the meeting referenced the committee presentations that compared Bluebonnet and STEMscopes and noted differences in preference by level: a higher proportion of elementary reviewers preferred Bluebonnet, while secondary reviewers favored STEMscopes. The board’s motion to approve STEMscopes carried with no recorded opposition in the meeting transcript for that item.
