Lafayette authorizes staff to submit wildfire-mitigation project list to Sen. Grayson

Lafayette City staff told the council Nov. 24 that Senator Grayson's office asked municipalities to submit ongoing wildfire-mitigation project lists for potential funding consideration. Staff detailed projects focused on brush clearing and tree removal along major evacuation routes (with emphasis on Moraga Road), a pullout area on Spring Hill Road to improve vehicle egress, and the creation of locked containers positioned at 17 public locations holding cones and small barricades to speed local response during emergencies.
Council discussed priorities and aesthetics for the storage boxes, coordination with fire agencies, and whether projects should be submitted in order of priority. Staff said the list was not prioritized and agreed to follow up with the fire marshal and neighboring Fire Safe Councils. Given the Dec. 1 deadline from Senator Grayson's office, council authorized staff to submit the list and to pursue cost estimates for related signage or no‑parking zones on evacuation routes if council wishes to add them later.
The motion to authorize submission passed by voice vote.
