With the district's VADER measure having failed, the Judson ISD Board of Trustees revisited its tax-rate plan and adopted a new rate at the Nov. meeting. Trustee Conoyer moved to set a maintenance and operations (M&O) rate of 0.6669 and an interest-and-sinking (I&S) rate of 0.3127 for a combined tax rate of 0.9796; the motion passed on a 7-0 vote.
Trustees discussed the constraints and timing of tax-rate work, including prior board actions earlier in the fiscal year that limited mid-cycle adjustments. Trustee Macias asked whether the board could reverse earlier penny adjustments in the I&S calculation next year to raise rate capacity, and district staff said any change would need legal review and could only take effect in a subsequent tax year.
Speakers in public comment had framed the failure of the VADER measure as a driver of near-term fiscal stress; the board—s tax-rate action sets the district—s property-tax policy for the coming budget cycle absent voter-approved revenue.
