Several councilmembers noted Lafayette’s distinct compensation and pension environment (noting the city is not under CalPERS) and argued that competitive pay and bonuses help keep skilled employees.
The motions were moved, seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote. The $250,000 pool will be administered by the city manager with distribution discretion; council also authorized the specified manager bonus and the holiday for Jan. 2.
Next steps: the city manager will allocate the bonus pool per internal policy and report back on distributions as appropriate.
