At the conclusion of the ADU event in Lexington, Governor Jesse Healy addressed a question about the recent death of a child referred to as Azalea and the Office of Child Advocate (OCA) report relating to the case.
"The death of this little girl, Azalea, is a is a real tragedy," Governor Healy said, expressing condolences and thanking the Office of Child Advocate for producing recommendations. He added that the Department of Children and Families (DCF) would review the report and "take any and all steps to make sure that the right systems are in place to prevent future tragedies like this."
When asked whether an outside commission could be supported, the governor noted the state has had an Office of Child Advocate for years to perform independent reviews and said DCF would take the OCA's recommendations into consideration and act as appropriate.
The exchange documented officials' intent to review and act on the OCA recommendations; no formal commission or legislative action was announced during the event.
