HINSDALE — The Hinsdale Village Board voted to adopt a balanced 2026 budget on Dec. 9, approving legal spending authority of $52,114,066 for village funds and $9,197,131 for the Hinsdale Public Library.
Village President Greg Hart summarized the ordinance during the public hearing, saying, “The proposed budget ordinance includes expenditures of $52,114,066 for all funds of the village plus $9,197,131 of expenditures for the Hinsdale Public Library.” The board opened a statutorily required public hearing; no members of the public offered comment and the hearing was adjourned by roll call.
Trustee Posner, who led the budget presentation and the second reading, described the plan as conservative on revenues and consistent with the village’s reserve policy. The budget package combines the municipal operating budget, a five‑year capital improvement plan (CIP) and a master infrastructure plan. The board noted the CIP includes roughly $7.4 million in capital projects for 2026, of which about $660,000 will come from grants. The village also identified $2.3 million in infrastructure improvements and approximately $1.3 million of water and sewer projects; officials said all items will be financed on a pay‑as‑you‑go basis with no new long‑term debt.
Carrie Dittman, the village finance official who has led budget preparation, was thanked by trustees for the work put into the plan. Officials emphasized compliance with the village’s 25 percent reserve policy and the desire to maintain the village’s AAA credit rating.
The board approved the ordinance in a roll‑call vote. The budget ordinance is effective Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2026.
What’s next: The budget documents remain available for public inspection as required by statute; routine spending and capital project implementation will proceed under staff direction and board oversight.
