Board declares Shoreline site surplus and approves $7.99 million GMP for Burton Elementary addition

The Davis School District Board approved two facilities actions Wednesday: declaring a Shoreline site in Syracuse surplus and approving a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the Burton Elementary addition.

Business administrator Tim Leffel briefed the board on the Shoreline property, saying the district purchased nearly 11 acres near Buffalo Point and Jensen Pond when anticipating growth in that neighborhood. Because a new district elementary is now under construction nearby and a charter school sits across the street, the district recommended designating the parcel surplus so it can be marketed and sold. "We bought almost an 11 acre piece of land in that neighborhood," Leffel said. A motion by Ms. Price to declare the Shoreline site surplus was seconded by Ms. Barber and carried.

Burton Elementary: Leffel also presented the Burton Elementary addition and remodel as part of the district’s bond projects. The district reported a guaranteed maximum price for the CM/GC contract of $7,993,728. A motion to approve Wilmington/Will‑named construction (contractor name varies in the transcript) for the Burton project with the stated GMP was moved by Ms. Barber, seconded by Ms. Stevens, and passed. The board recorded the votes as 'Aye' and the motion carries.

What’s next: The district will market the surplus Shoreline parcel and proceed with contracting and project delivery under the accepted GMP for Burton Elementary. Additional implementation steps, timelines and procurement details will be handled by the business office and construction management team.
