Government Center and Law Enforcement Center projects report major milestones; board offered tours

A county construction representative updated commissioners on the Government Center and Law Enforcement Center (LEC) projects, saying substantial elements are complete and milestones set for 2026.

The speaker reported Phase 1A punchlist items for Government Center Level 1 are substantially completed and the county has begun occupying that space; Phase 1B demolition and remaining finish work are underway with a target substantial completion date of April 26. At the Law Enforcement Center, Unit C CMU (concrete masonry unit) walls and detention frames were installed and mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough‑ins are in progress; procurement of long‑lead detention frames removed a key schedule risk. The garage and sally‑port foundations are poured, and the project team said they expect to turn the garage/sally‑port space over in June 2026 and complete jail housing and booking renovations in October 2026.

Project staff said ongoing work includes interior drywall and exterior installations, ADA ramp and apron to the main entrance, and coordination of biweekly oversight committee meetings. Board members asked about tours; staff offered to arrange board tours in late February or March and to coordinate wider staff walkthroughs.

No change orders or major budget overruns were reported in the update; the representative said the project is tracking on schedule and on budget at present and noted only typical procurement delays for some items had occurred.
