High Point committee forwards amendment to allow city employees to receive housing and community development aid

The City of High Point Community Development Committee on Tuesday moved to forward an amendment to the city's conflict of interest policy that would permit exceptions allowing city employees to receive assistance under community development and housing programs.

Nina Wilson, Community Development and Housing Director, told the committee the amendment "authorizes exceptions to our current policy that will allow city employees to receive assistance under community development and housing programs." She said the proposed language was attached to the meeting agenda and stressed that employees would "still have to follow any of the same rules" as other applicants, would meet the same criteria, and would not receive "any special treatment or consideration" or nonpublic information.

Chairperson Tyrone Johnson said he was pleased to see the proposal and called for a motion to forward it to the full City Council for final consideration. A committee member seconded; committee members present voiced "Aye," and the motion was forwarded to the full council.
