Ocean Shores fire chief reports South Station progress, new recruits and volunteer onboarding

Fire Chief Ritter told the Ocean Shores Public Safety Committee on Nov. 18 that renovation and preparation of the South Station is moving forward and staff hope to station personnel there by January. He said six new firefighter recruits are performing well and meeting training standards and that five paid volunteer members have been recently onboarded after background checks and medical exams.
Chief Ritter described ongoing evaluation and monthly reviews for new members and said the department plans a fire academy in January and concurrent EMT classes to advance training. He noted one benefit of volunteering with the department: volunteers receive five preference points when the department tests for career positions.
Chief Ritter also announced a community event, "turkey bingo," scheduled Friday at 06:00 at the Convention Center.
No council questions were raised at the meeting; Chief Ritter's update required no immediate council action.
