Hinsdale swears in three new firefighters as chief praises service

HINSDALE, Ill. — The Village Board joined family members Thursday to formally swear in three new Hinsdale firefighters and heard a department chief’s remarks on the responsibilities of the role.
President Greg Hart introduced the recruits — James Radke, Jared McCarthy and Nick Cookingham — and summarized their training and educational backgrounds. Hart said James Radke completed paramedic training at Ingalls Hospital and holds national certification, Jared McCarthy recently completed paramedic training at Silver Cross Hospital and will take the national exam, and Nick Cookingham graduated from the Romeoville Fire Academy and will begin paramedic training in January.
Chief Edward Croker addressed the new firefighters and their families, describing firefighting as a physically and emotionally demanding profession that requires teamwork and community trust. “Welcome to the Hinsdale Fire Department, gentlemen. You are going to do great things,” Croker said, and urged the recruits to remember the importance of family support and professional standards.
The board then joined the department for an official photo. The swearing-in concluded with thanks to the board and commission members who participated in the hiring process.
Next steps: The new hires will begin their assigned shifts and engage in department training and paramedic certification pathways as described by Hart and department leadership.
