Hinsdale board honors Community Development Director Rob McGinnis ahead of retirement

HINSDALE, Ill. — The Hinsdale Village Board honored Community Development Director and Building Commissioner Rob McGinnis with a proclamation recognizing more than 19 years of municipal service and presenting commemorative gifts ahead of his January retirement.
President Greg Hart read the proclamation praising McGinnis’s tenure, describing him as a leader who helped guide major development projects and established a preservation incentive program. “Rob has played a pivotal role in guiding many major development projects, establishing the preservation incentive program, and supporting our residents and local businesses,” Hart read during the proclamation.
Trustees and longtime colleagues offered personal tributes citing McGinnis’s institutional knowledge, mentorship and responsiveness on code and preservation matters. One trustee praised his calm professionalism in a community that often debates property issues; another recounted how McGinnis helped educate and build interest in historic preservation.
The board presented parting gifts including a McGinnis Drive sign and a village tree-related gift; trustees invited McGinnis and his family to take photos in front of the official village tree. President Hart also announced that Bill Haneff will serve as interim community development director following McGinnis’s departure.
Next steps: McGinnis’s retirement is effective January 2, and staff will transition duties to interim director Bill Haneff while the village coordinates any longer-term replacement process.
