Hinsdale trustees adopt $52.1 million 2026 budget after brief public hearing

HINSDALE, Ill. — The Hinsdale Village Board approved the village’s 2026 annual budget on a roll-call vote after opening and immediately adjourning a public hearing with no public speakers.

President Greg Hart read a summary of the proposed ordinance before the board, saying, “The proposed budget ordinance includes expenditures of $52,114,066 for all funds of the village, plus $9,197,131 of expenditures for the Hinsdale Public Library.” The board had earlier made the draft budget available for the required inspection period and held a public hearing as part of the meeting agenda.

Chair Possema moved to approve the annual budget ordinance, which the board described as a balanced plan with conservative revenue estimates and compliance with the village’s 25% reserve policy. The plan includes approximately $7.4 million in capital improvements next year, $660,000 in grants and roughly $2.3 million in infrastructure work; village officials said water and sewer fund projects total about $1.3 million. Trustees stated the CIP will be financed on a pay-as-you-go basis with no new debt.

Trustees voted on the second reading and adoption of the ordinance; roll-call votes were recorded in the meeting minutes with trustees answering “Aye.” Following the vote, President Hart stated the budget is approved.

The board’s approval completes the legislative step required to provide legal spending authority for calendar year 2026. The village said library spending is set by the library board per state statute and was included in the ordinance.

Next steps: The ordinance takes effect as the board directed and staff will implement the 2026 operating plan and capital projects schedule outlined in the adopted documents.
