The Los Banos City Council on Nov. 19 adopted local amendments to the 2025 California Fire Code and the 2025 California Building Code.
The council opened public hearings and heard presentations from fire department staff, who said the triennial code updates incorporate new standards for battery energy storage systems, electrical requirements and wildland‑urban interface protections. Deputy Fire Marshal and assistant fire staff summarized the changes and noted they mirror statewide updates to improve safety for evolving technologies.
Council members waived the second readings and voted to adopt Ordinance 12‑11 (2025 California Fire Code local amendments) and Ordinance 12‑12 (2025 California Building Code local amendments). Council conducted roll call votes for each ordinance; the roll calls recorded affirmative votes by the council members present.
The adoptions place the new code language into the Los Banos Municipal Code and give staff updated enforcement authorities for the updated technical standards.
No substantive amendments were made at second reading; staff previously presented the details during the first hearing cycle.
