The West Oso ISD Board approved administration's recommendation to continue a guaranteed-cost workers' compensation plan administered by Frost Insurance covering 01/01/2026 to 01/01/2027 at an annual cost of $113,856. Administration said the prior-year cost was $105,716, representing an increase of $8,140.
Miss Mendez told trustees the plan is a professional service the district has used and that the administration is exploring better offers for the next cycle. "The prior year cost was 105,716, an increase of 8,140," she said while outlining the renewal terms.
Trustee Oscar Arredondo pressed administration on whether the district had solicited competitive bids and urged more market testing. "When we chose Frost, is this something that we go out for bids, or how do we procure them?" he asked. Administration said they had not gone out for bids this cycle but were seeking better offers for next year and had requested numbers from other companies.
Trustee Shirley Jordan moved and Trustee Priscilla Vela seconded the recommendation to approve the renewal. The motion carried 5-1, with Arredondo recording the lone no vote and requesting that staff return next year with comparative proposals.
Board minutes show the renewal will proceed for the stated one-year term; the administration said it is continuing outreach to other insurers to compare offerings for future procurements.
