The Veneta Utilities Authority approved Invoice 35522 from Max Hydraulic Inc. for $10,991.75 on Dec. 16 to replace the main cylinder that powers compression on a new trash truck. Superintendent Smith explained that repairing seals and rechroming would cost roughly the same as replacing the cylinder, so staff recommended buying a new unit to return the truck to service. The motion to approve the invoice was made and seconded (mover: Tyler; second: Lawford) and passed with no opposition.
During the VOA superintendent report, Smith said two students from the Welch Skills Center — participating in a Green Country workforce program — began assisting city staff by tearing down old office and utility buildings and helping with solid-waste pickup. Smith described the pilot as early-stage but said, “so far, so good.”
What happens next: the city will take delivery/installation of the new cylinder so the trash truck can return to service; the workforce pilot will continue as staff evaluate outcomes and the training arrangement.
