FRUITA — The Fruita City Council on a 6-0 vote adopted two annexation ordinances and an accompanying rezoning ordinance that bring roughly 40 acres at 1615 L Road into the city and designate the land for Community Services & Recreation (CSR).
Planning Director Henry Hemphill told the council the parcel — jointly owned by the city and Mesa County School District 51 — was presented as a two-phase serial annexation to meet state contiguity requirements. Hemphill said the city and district have long anticipated open-space, trail and school-related uses for the property and that the planning commission recommended approval 6-0.
“This parcel is recommended for community services and recreation in our comprehensive plan,” Hemphill said during the second-reading presentation. He noted the property lies largely within the city’s urban growth boundary and that staff concluded it meets the approval criteria for annexation…
