CSISD approves new CTE center courses including cosmetology, welding and automotive

The College Station ISD board unanimously approved a slate of career and technical education (CTE) course updates on Nov. 18 tied to the district’s new CTE center.
CTE staff said the center will allow the district to move programs in‑house that previously required busing students to neighboring districts. Approved changes include relocating ag mechanics to the CTE center, converting ‘Build Tech’ into a broader Construction Technology course, and housing automotive and welding programs locally instead of sending students elsewhere. The board also approved a cosmetology program (a senior/sophomore cohort requiring multi‑block scheduling to meet Texas licensure clock‑hour requirements), animation/digital art courses that count as fine arts credits, and updates to cybersecurity offerings (digital forensics and foundations of cybersecurity).
Staff emphasized that cosmetology requires substantial supervised clock hours for Texas licensing and that course sequencing and staffing will be adjusted to meet those needs. Trustees praised the changes as important for workforce pathways and voted 7–0 to adopt the course approvals and move forward with scheduling and staffing plans.
Administration said they will post the updated course guide and return with staffing and logistics as the center prepares to accept students.
